Dave Thorne

Dave Thorne is an IT Consultant by trade; a Hertford junior cricket coach for fun; and over the last four years has become a children’s rhyming picture book author. After spending many years travelling with his job, he finally managed to realise his ambition during the Covid lockdowns of writing a book. Although initially expecting to write a business book or two, he soon realised that writing funny kids’ books was a much better and more fulfilling use of his time.
Writing daft rhyming stories is one thing, but the books really needed a warm fun style of illustration to complement them. As Dave says, ‘Unfortunately, I can’t draw for toffee, but luckily came across a brilliantly talented illustrator called Kris Lillyman to bring the stories to life – which he does superbly. Although we didn’t manage to meet during covid, it was obvious that we both had a similar sense of the ridiculous – and just clicked’.

After finishing the first book Doris, The Fastest Chicken in the West, which won an award in the Writer’s Digest 90 th Annual Writing Competition, Kris and Dave delivered three more books in the same series, with the fifth book – Colin the Collie – released in the next few months. They’re not finished yet, with many more in the pipeline such as Ted the Llama; Brian the Hypnotist Turkey; Little Duck learns to sing, and many more on the way – including audio book versions when time allows.

The books are for kids to either read themselves or to read with their parents and grandparents – who tend to enjoy them every bit as much as the kids do – so although they’re advertised at ages up to 10 years old, they are quite fun for kids up to 90 years or more.
