Lucy Plunkett

Lucy Plunkett

Reading and writing have always been Lucy’s greatest loves.  She spent her childhood holidays
buried in books rather than in sand, and countless hours creating stories on an old typewriter.
Lucy always wished to be a published author whose characters reflect the wonderful diversity in
our world, and now her wish has come true with her debut picture book, Dexter! The AMAZING
School Dog! (Owlet Press, 2023). Dexter’s character, a support dog, is based on her family’s dog,
Pippa. Lucy has also been published in SEN Magazine.

Lucy has had the privilege of working in education for over 20 years, previously as a primary
school teacher and special educational needs co-ordinator, and now as a specialist advisory
teacher.  Her writing is usually inspired by her own neurodiverse family, and the pupils she has
been lucky enough to learn from, with a focus on wellbeing and inclusion.

Lucy is passionate about creating relatable, inclusive and diverse narratives about ‘big’ concepts,
experiences and feelings. Her hope for her stories is that they can be used as a safe starting point
for discussions and add to the much-needed, growing list of picture books celebrating differences
and diversity.
