Past events

As a preview to the full Festival, in partnership with The Book Nook, we held a number of successful author events in July 2021, check out the details below…

Author Talk and Book Signing with Jennifer Bell and Alice Lickens

Are you an animal lover? Are you interested in joining the best spy agency in the world?! Then it is time to join SPEARS: the Society for the Protection of Endangered and Awesomely Rare Species.

Jen and Alice spoke about their love of books and reading, and how they were inspired by Earth’s amazing animal species to write Agents of the Wild. They recruited children into the SPEARS agency with an animal and geography quiz, an agility competition and even an appearance from Attie himself! Just like the book, the event was packed with lots of information about endangered animals and what children can be doing to help protect the natural world.

Our thanks to the Southern Maltings and Rotary Club of Amwell for their generous support for this event.

Tornado: In the Eye of the Storm

YouTube Live Author Q&A with John Nichol, Iraq War Veteran and Sunday Times Best-selling Author

When Saddam Hussein ordered the occupation of neighbouring Kuwait in 1990, he set in motion a chain of events which still reverberate around the globe today.

Tornado is the astonishing story of the RAF’s Tornado force, at the very heart of Operation Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait in 1991. Told by former Tornado navigator and local author John Nichol – who was shot down during the conflict, tortured and paraded on TV – it is a story of untold fear and suffering, and astounding courage in the face of hitherto unimaginable adversity. It is the story those who did not return – and of the families who watched and waited as one of the most complex conflicts in recent history unfolded live on television.

We hosted a evening on YouTube with John Nichol with a Q & A talk about his new book, Tornado: In the Eye of the Storm.
